Albert Blackwell (“Blackie”) Stieglitz was a highly regarded attorney in Miami for more than 50 years. A graduate of the University of Miami (and its School of Law), he spent several years on active duty in the United States Air Force, following which he built a legal practice focused on medical malpractice and product liability defense. During his career he served as President of the Dade County Defense Bar, President of the Coconut Grove Rotary Club, and in leadership roles in many other professional and community organizations including the American Bar Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Florida Defense Lawyers Association, and the vestry of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. A regular at YPO previews, fundraisers, and galas, he deeply cherished the opera, and was also a talented pianist and painter and a great lover of history, politics, and time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, YPO member Rosemary (“Mimi”), and their two sons and four grandchildren. Donations may be made in Blackie’s memory to organizations of donors’ choosing, including the Young Patronesses of the Opera.
